Cookie Policy
A useful clarification right up front: this site sets no HTTP cookies. Nothing is sent in your request headers, because there is no application server at the other end. What the site uses is the browser's local storage (localStorage), which stays on your device.
We nonetheless keep the vocabulary of cookies and a consent window, because the choice mechanism is the same, and because the law cares about what is written to your device, not about the name of the technique used.
The four categories
These are exactly the four categories in the “Manage my choices” window. There are no others, hidden or otherwise.
| Category | Does it write anything today? | Contents |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary Always on | Yes | A single key, ajhq_consent: your decision, its date, and any Do Not Track or GPC signals observed. Without it, the banner would come back on every page. |
| Preferences Off by default | Yes, if you accept it | Your best times, your daily challenge streak, and the last size of each game. If declined, the games and the daily challenge work identically, but nothing is kept from one visit to the next. |
| Analytics Off by default | No | Nothing. No analytics tool is installed. The box exists so that turning it on someday is your decision and not a done deal. |
| Marketing Off by default | No | Nothing. No ad network is connected. Same principle. |
Nothing turns itself on
The three optional categories stay off until you turn them on yourself. That holds before your first decision too: on your very first visit, only the ajhq_consent key can be written, and only at the moment you click one of the three buttons in the banner.
Changing your decision
The “Manage my choices” button, at the bottom of every page, reopens the same window at any time. Unchecking “Preferences” immediately erases best times, the daily challenge streak, and saved settings. You can also clear local storage from your browser's settings, with the same effect.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends one of these signals, the consent window tells you so. The signal is recorded in ajhq_consent. Today it has no practical consequence, for a simple reason: there is nothing to turn off, since nothing optional is on by default.
If that were to change
The day an analytics tool or an ad banner is added to this site, it would be attached to the corresponding category, it would only run after your explicit consent, and the table above would stop saying “Nothing”. This page and the privacy policy would be updated the same day as the addition.
